The Harley Foundation
Home to the historic Portland Collection of fine and decorative art, The Harley Foundation also hosts exhibitions featuring leading contemporary artists.
The Harley Foundation is a charitable trust based on the historic Welbeck estate. It was set up by Ivy, Duchess of Portland in 1978 to ‘encourage creativity in all of us’. In the decades since, the Foundation has opened a contemporary art gallery, artist studios, countryside art walk, and a new museum gallery. The free-entry museum shows displays from The Portland Collection, a world-class historic art collection that has been built up by the family at Welbeck over 400 years. Treasures include Michelangelo’s ‘Madonna of Silence’, the pearl earring that Charles I was wearing at his execution, and an astonishing collection of Tudor and Stuart portraits.
Free entry. Please see the website for current opening hours.
