Appleby Castle
Appleby Castle has been held by the Kings of England and Scotland and includes a 950 year old Norman keep and now a museum (The Norman Centre).
The Norman Centre features an immersive audio experience and an interactive family trail, timelines, historical display boards, manikins and artefacts including limited edition reproductions of the Domesday books.
In the 17th Century, the Castle was the preferred residence of Lady Anne Clifford, a patron of authors and literature; and known for her many letters and diaries.
Tours of the Castle are held daily. You can explore the 27 acres of parkland or have fun on the Children’s adventure play area.
The Castle holds a variety of special events including open-air theatre, concerts, ghost hunts, battle re-enactments, masquerade balls and Christmas / New Year parties.
