New Community Cases at Castleford Museum
Castleford Museum’s new family-friendly and interactive displays celebrate women who have made important contributions to our town.
History Makers pays tribute to two champions of local heritage: Ivy Hill MBE (1904-1992), the town’s first female librarian and curator, and Alison Drake MBE (1950-2019), a founding member and long-serving chair of Castleford Heritage Trust and a passionate campaigner.
Burberry: Women on the Front Line of Fashion showcases the skill and expertise of the workforce at Burberry’s Castleford Mill. The timeless Heritage trench coat, one of the town’s most iconic exports, sits alongside one of the vital non-surgical gowns made at the factory and donated to the NHS during the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020.
