Britain's What's On Event Guide
London Canal Museum
The London Canal Museum is a five-minute walk from King's Cross station and in another world - the world of tranquil canals and colourful boats! Here there are two museum themes, the canals of London and also the Victorian ice trade for which our historic building was built in the 1860s. Visitors can see inside a traditional family boat cabin and learn about the social history of the people who once carried cargo around England by boat. Exhibitions cover the arts and crafts of the canals, their water engineering, the boats, the horses, and boat haulage by horse, engine, and tractor - we have the only working canal towpath tractor in a museum and you can (very carefully) sit on it for your social media picture to share with friends. From Easter to the end of October and in December there are boat trips through the long Islington Tunnel with a guide on board who also offers tea/coffee and on some dates we provide cream tea cruises.
