In the middle of May, Petworth will be abuzz with visitors from around the UK and maybe even a few interior enthusiasts from abroad when The Petworth Park Antiques & Fine Art Fair marquee goes up, opening for the 11th year in a row for three days. Situated in its usual place in the Lancelot ‘Capability’ Brown grounds with views overlooking the 700 acre deer park, watched by the National Trust mansion, Petworth House, some 60 dealers are gathering to share their latest acquisitions for collectors, designers and interested buyers.
Coming up for sale is a wide array of desirable items from showcasing a wide range of fine period furniture, lighting, oil and watercolour paintings, sculpture, drawings and prints, maps, boxes, glass, silver, clocks, vintage watches and jewellery together with ceramics, 20th century design objects, textiles and carpets, applied arts and many other decorative and unique works of art from the ancient to the contemporary.
Light refreshments can be found within the fair and a courtesy bus will take visitors to and from the centre of Petworth where they can take full advantage of all that the market town has to offer, including its 30 art galleries and antiques shops. Parking is free for antiques fair visitors right outside the marquee.
