Fauré Requiem and War Story- Tiptree Choral Society
Tiptree Choral Society, conducted by Malcolm Boulter and accompanied by David Leveridge, is offering a concert for Remembrance this year on 18th November at 19:30 in St. Luke’s Church, with a performance of Fauré’s beautiful ‘Requiem’, together with their first performance of a new work set to the music of Ralph Vaughan Williams.
Fauré’s Requiem, believed to have been written for his late father, contains some glorious melodies and is generally felt to create a sense of solace and serenity. A favourite work for many, it will feature soloists Carolyn Cook and Richard Woodall.
The narrative of ‘War Story’ follows the story of three generations of women from a seafaring family in Cornwall. It tells of their involvement in times of war and their strength in adversity; the tale is thoughtfully linked with songs and music by Vaughan Williams. As well as Carolyn and Richard, the Choral Society is joined for this performance by John Holmes as narrator, a former member of TADS, the Tiptree drama group.
The Vaughan Williams arrangements include selected items from “Five English Folk Songs”, “Five Mystical Songs” and “A Sea Symphony”.
