Yugen Saxophone Quartet at Adbaston, nr Eccleshall (Stafford)

5:30pm concert by the Yugen Saxophone Quartet, playing a programme of classical, traditional and contemporary chamber music, in the mediaeval Adbaston Church (good acoustics), near Eccleshall, Stafford, ST20 0QE. Interval refreshments offered and free parking nearby.

Founded in 2020, with innovation at the core of their music making, the Birmingham-based Yugen Saxophone Quartet are already celebrated for pushing creative boundaries with their captivating performances, exploring a diverse repertoire of chamber and other music. This ensemble of star alumni from the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire [RBC] comprises Alicia Hillman (baritone sax), Ewan Wright (soprano sax), Nicole Micheli (alto sax) and Emily Plumb (tenor sax).

Yugen perform at a wide variety of engagements, recently including Leicester International Music Festival, Birmingham Symphony Hall’s Jennifer Blackwell space, and Powderham Castle’s ‘Music in the Castle’ events, plus radio appearances. In 2022, they released an acclaimed debut studio album Origins. This concert is an opportunity to see four unique Saxophonists, sharing their passion for chamber music in an exciting and vibrant ensemble.

Programme of two sets includes Saxophone Quartet mvt IV by Philip Glass, Andrew Downes' Earth Dances, Florio's Quartetto, and arrangements of traditional pieces Sosban Fach and Danny Boy.

The bimonthly ACCS concerts run on the first Sundays of May, July, September and November. Next events are virtuoso British pianist Kyle Hutchings (1st Sept 2024) and Max Catalano (baritone) & Friends on 3rd Nov.
