Fore Adventure: Kayak Foraging
Join us on one of our kayak foraging adventures this summer. We’ll investigate the life in our bay through foraging from the kayaks, identifying wild plants and searching for edible seaweeds as we go. You’ll be brimming with knowledge on what to look out for along our shores as well as the all important preparation techniques. This kayak foraging adventure will start from our base in Studland in Dorset and head out to explore the iconic sea stacks of Old Harry Rocks. We will stop en route to seek out wild plants and seaweeds. This course is designed to be vegan friendly so we don’t forage for crustaceans on this trip, if you want to explore the seashore further then take a look at our kayak, fish and foraging trips.
On this adventure you will head out from our base on Middle Beach which is a beautiful sheltered bay out to explore further along the coast line towards Old Harry Rocks. This is the perfect adventure if you want to discover coastal wild food and explore the stunning Jurassic coastline at the same time and no experience of kayaking is necessary.
Before we take to the ocean by kayak we will forage en route to the beach with you for an opportunity to share wild plants on land as well on the sea. Natures larder is forever changing and Spring time brings us new shoots, like wild garlic, alexanders and cleansing cleavers, in summer we are treated with edible blooms and more gorgeous green goodies and an array of sea vegetables. Autumn delivers nourishing nuts and a bounty of berries. Even in winter you can still forage and find yourself wild foods to eat. Best of all once on the kayaks we have an abundance of edible seaweeds on the sea all year round so the larder is never empty.
