Music of Majesty

Mozart ‘Coronation Mass’ and a selection of choral and instrumental pieces with a royal flavour

On Saturday 25 March at St Paul’s Church, Weymouth Choral Society will present ‘Music of Majesty’ featuring a performance of Mozart’s ‘Coronation Mass’ and selected pieces with a royal or English connection. With guests Simon Earl (organ), Winston Leese (trumpet) and four vocal soloists (Nicola Burley, Leah Page, Jonathan Valender & Gareth Jones) adding to the choral items with solo features, we promise a royal banquet of music!

Mozart’s ‘Coronation Mass’ is one of his best-known choral works, full of contrast and lyrical themes. It earned its nickname most likely due to being performed during coronation festivities in Prague in 1791/2. Complemented by a wide variety of styles of pieces that have been played at royal ceremonies, weddings and funerals, or have a quintessential English theme, you’ll hear from composers as diverse as Purcell and Handel through to Quilter, Finzi, Walton and Vaughan Williams.

Join us for an evening of inspiring, reflective and uplifting vocal and instrumental music. The concert will begin at 7.30pm, conducted by the Society’s musical director, Helen Brind. Tickets priced £12 (free for under 16s) are available from Weymouth Pavilion Theatre or by phoning 07929 519973. They can also be purchased via Ticket Source on the Society’s website: weymouthchoralsociety.org.uk
