John Dobson in, and around, Tynemouth and North Shields
A talk by local historian and retired architect Stuart Barlow, exploring buildings and projects of famous North Shields architect John Dobson.
Old Low Light Heritage Centre volunteer, and retired architect, Stuart Barlow will talk about the buildings and projects of famous North East, and North Shields born, architect John Dobson in, and around, North Shields and Tynemouth, including Cullercoats and Seaton Delaval. John Dobson was born in Chirton, where his father owned the Pineapple Inn and garden nurseries. During his career he was involved in nearly 450 projects and is perhaps best known for designing Newcastle Central Station and also for his work with Richard Grainger transforming the centre of Newcastle.
This talk is part of a programme of events run through North Shields Heritage Action Zone, a place-based programme of physical improvements, community and cultural activities to secure lasting improvements to historic high streets and the communities who use them. Five buildings designed by Dobson still stand in the Heritage Action Zone.
