'Exhibition Opening – People Powered: Stories from the River Tees'
In partnership with the National Portrait Gallery, this exhibition features an action-packed programme of events focusing on histories and folk tales exploring how the magnificent River Tees has shaped the region.
Explore untold stories from the River Tees, poetry, portraits from the National Portrait Gallery and unseen works from the Middlesbrough Collection, along with some old favourites.
Programme for our opening day is as follows:
Our gallery is open 10:00-16:30. FREE.
MIMA Kitchen is open 10:00-16:00.
11:00 – 15:00
Family Art Trolley, FREE.
Picnic £1 per child.

Meet the Maker talks and tours on the hour, every hour from the National Saturday Club, MIMA curators, elders and pupils from St Mary’s Catholic Primary School.
11:30 – 12:30
A Man Called Adam will present a LIVE, People Powered soundscape in a curated DJ set, which has been inspiredby the River Tees.
13:00 – 14:00
The Odell Singers will perform a fabulous mix of sea shanties and seafaring songs alongside a few popular favourites.
14:00 – 15:30
A playful singalong to bring the day to an end with The Marton Guitar Group led by Martyn Cresswell.
