Britain's What's On Event Guide
Lichfield in the English Civil War – a City Divided
From the winter of 1642, to the summer of 1646, the city of Lichfield was torn apart during the English Civil War. Lichfield historian, and tour guide, Jono Oates, tells the story of the three sieges of Lichfield Cathedral, the dramatic death of Lord Greville Brooke, and the destruction of the main spire of Lichfield Cathedral by the cannon balls of Royalist commander Prince Rupert.
The illustrated talk describes how Lichfield became a city divided, with supporters of both the Royalists and the Roundheads fighting hand-to-hand across the city and within the cathedral close – and also reveals the location where the ghost of a mortally wounded Cavalier takes his last breath!
The talk lasts an hour and 15 minutes and light refreshments, teas and coffees, will be included.
7pm to 8:30pm.
