St Marie’s Cathedral, Sheffield

Heritage Open Day: Visit this golden Victorian Church the centre of Catholic worship since 1850, and admire the creativity of those Victorian architects and designers in the huge stained glass East window, the golden stonework and exquisite wall and floor tiles. Guide books will be available as well as story boards illustrating the history of Catholicism in Sheffield to the present day. Much of the decorations are similar to those in the great Gothic Cathedrals and illustrate the creativity of glass makers, painters, tile makers, stone masons and other benefactors in making a beautiful church for worship. To celebrate the Creativity Unwrapped theme for this year's Heritage Open Days festival, you will be able to recreate your own version of out beautiful Victorian tiles as well as design your own 'Stained Glass' window! All are welcome. Please do be respectful if visiting during a service.
