Britain's What's On Event Guide
Firelighting Workshop
Join a Wild Things instructor to discover our species’ special skill – fire lighting! We will cover the importance and mechanics of fire, where possible gather materials from the forest around us, and put into practice four different fire lighting methods. These will cover modern fire lighting using a ferrocerium rod, through to looking back in history to creating fire by friction.
No prior experience is needed, and fire lighting equipment will be provided. Please be aware, many of the fire lighting methods will require us to move between kneeling on the ground and standing, and a moderate degree of manual dexterity using a knife. Where possible we will work to adapt techniques to assist any requirements.
Please be prepared to be outside for the duration of the session, dressed and booted appropriately, and bring along lunch and something to drink.
You need to be over the age of 16 to attend.
10.30am to 3pm. There is a non-refundable booking fee of £10 per person.
