Abide with me – music for remembrance and reflection
Wooburn Singers autumn concert.
Kerensa Briggs - Requiem will be complemented by poignant and evocative music from the 19th and 20th century: Lewis - The Souls of the Righteous, Taverner - Song for Athene, Ireland - Greater love hath no man, Monk - Abide with me.
Kerensa Briggs is an award-winning British composer specialising in choral music. Her music has been performed internationally at venues including St Paul’s Cathedral and the Sistine Chapel, and is regularly broadcast on BBC Radio 3 and Classic FM. Her portrait disc ‘Requiem’ for Delphian Records (2023) is placed in the top 30 classical charts. It has only been performed twice before and we will be delighted to welcome Kerensa to the audience.
We are joined by mezzo soprano Bethany Horak-Hallett, an Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment Rising Star alumni. She won first prize in the 2019 Normandy International Music Competition Concours Corneille and has also performed recently at the BBC Proms.
Richard Carr, organist, started out as a county music scholar at the High Wycombe Music Centre. He is director of music at St Michael’s Church, Bishop’s Stortford and a freelance accompanist and teacher, who has accompanied choral workshops with Bob Chilcott, John Rutter, Brian Kay and Greg Beardsell.
