Shibori - Japanese Tie Dye

Shibori – an Introduction to the Ancient Japanese Art of Resist Dyeing. Create geometric and organic patterns on fabric using Japanese manual resist dyeing techniques. In Japanese the word Shibori means to wring, or squeeze. It is a technique in which fabric is stitched, folded, twisted, compressed or bound before being dyed in order to create unique patterns on cloth.
In this workshop you will learn traditional methods of stitched and bound resist, and some of the many ways to stitch, bind, fold, twist, wrap or compress cloth for dyeing, creating your very own beautiful patterns on pure cotton fabric. You will be making several small pieces and one larger piece of your own designed fabric to use for projects, and dye these using Rit dyes.
All materials are supplied. There are also tote bags you can use for a cost of £2 each. Please bring along your sewing kit if you have one and sewing marker pen/pencil, also an apron and clothes/shoes you don’t mind getting dye splashes on. If you have a design in mind please bring it along, otherwise there will be a selection of ideas to inspire you. Suitable for ages 14+
10am to 3pm. Cost £40 including materials
