Pangbourne Twinning Association French Film Night - 'Sarah's Key'
Sarah’s Key (Elle s’appelait Sarah) (2010)
A film by Gilles Paquet-Brenner.
In Paris, in 1942, Sarah, a ten year old girl, is captured with her parents by the French police during a round-up of Jewish families in the middle of the night.
Desperate to protect her younger brother, Sarah locks him in a bedroom cupboard and promises to come back for him when they are released.
Sixty seven years later, Sarah’s story intertwines with that of Julia, an American journalist who is investigating the Vel d’Hiv round-up. In her research, Julia stumbles onto a trail of secrets that link her to Sarah and to questions about her family’s future.
The film stars Kristin Scott Thomas as Julia, Mélusine Mayance as young Sarah, Charlotte Poutrel as adult Sarah, Natasha Mashkevich, Arben Bajraktaraj, Niels Arestrup, Dominique Frot, Michel Duchaussoy, Frédéric Pierrot and Aidan Quinn.
