Meet the Maker & Make a Creature!

Come and meet ceramic artist Kate Bosworth at the Heritage Centre for another of our fortnightly ‘Meet the Maker’ events – for this event you can also make something with the maker too!

Kate Bosworth of Orchard Grange Pottery will be here with some of her beautiful pottery and as a special treat for the last of this year’s solo Meet the Makers, you can also make a clay creature too! A monster, your pet cat, or any animal you choose!

Pop in and see Kate for this quick, family friendly activity free of charge using air drying clay that you can paint at home.

A bit about Kate and her Orchard Grange Pottery:

“I’ve never really thought of myself as an ‘artist’, I can’t draw for toffee, but as a young child I had the good fortune to discover ceramics and with hindsight it has always been my thing, I just took 20 years or so to embrace it properly. I started selling in 2017.

I’m self-taught, or, I think that’s what I’m supposed to say because I don’t have a ceramics degree. In practice, I spent several years training with renowned ceramicists and actually you never stop learning.

My first love is the process and I spend most of my time running classes in my studio in the Tyne valley, Orchard Grange Pottery. I’m always trying to bring ceramics and specifically wheel throwing to new people, especially children. It can be a lovely multi-generational pursuit. Teaching is great for keeping my skills fresh too, and I’ve challenged myself to learn throwing left handed, one handed and even blindfolded.

I make small batches of stoneware which are designed to be striking, cheerful and a bit different. I rarely make more than six of anything in one sitting, to keep it fresh and make sure I’m still enjoying the process. I hope the smile that making them gives to me conveys to the person eventually holding the object in their hand.”

A selection of Kate’s work is also available to purchase in our shop or directly from her on her Meet the Maker day.
The event runs between 10:00 and 16:00 and is free
