Starting in 1981, the Mersea Island Festival has been an annual event each August at Essex Outdoors Mersea (East Mersea Youth Camp). The Festival aims to bring together children, young people and adults with or without a physical or learning disability to take part in a wide variety of activities that challenge and stimulate, helping to build the confidence and feelings of self worth in participants. At the same time they are fun and exciting and an opportunity to make new friends.
Activities in the programme include archery, assisted climbing, zipline, giant swing, paddleboarding, kayaking, aerial adventure, caving, art tent, band workshop, circus skills, drumming workshops, aerobics, bushcraft, coastal discovery, adapted bikes, fishing, crabbing, adpated bikes and pedal karts.
In the evenings there are live bands, discos and the Camp Concert.
Accommodation is in tents (ours or your own) with some indoor accommodation available to those who aren't able to stay in a tent.
