Britain's What's On Event Guide
Stan Tracey’s Under Milk Wood Jazz Suite
Inspired by Dylan Thomas’ play for voices, Stan Tracey's 'Under Milk Wood Jazz Suite' is a beautifully constructed set of eight tunes, each with an unmistakeably individual character.
With echoes of Thelonius Monk and Charlie Rouse, Tracey's original recording is described as The best ever UK Jazz recording and The British Kind Of Blue, securing the Mercury Music Prize nominated artist his place as the leading light of British jazz.
Played here in full by a top saxophone quartet, and with excerpts from Thomas' exquisite text performed live, 'Under Milk Wood Jazz Suite' is an immersive journey in to the lives, dreams, and innermost thoughts of the inhabitants of a cosy fictional Welsh fishing village- Llareggub.
This production was first developed at Goring Community Jazz Club, and recently performed to acclaim at Oxford Festival of the Arts, the long-running Marlow Jazz Club, and as Bracknell Jazz Club's 10 year anniversary concert.
Stan Tracey's 'Under Milk Wood Jazz Suite' is a rare opportunity to experience these two musical and literary masterworks at their uplifting and life-affirming best.
