Cherry Tree Arboretum - Open Garden for NGS
Created in 2006 on 50 acres of unspoilt, lightly-farmed pastureland scattered with mature oaks by John and Liz Ravenscroft. The garden is located on a hilly area overlooking the Cheshire plain with views to the Pennines in the north, the Peckforton Hills to the northwest and the Breiddons to the southwest on the Welsh borders. It is a showcase of specimen trees with magnolias, peonies, dahlias, lilacs, deciduous azaleas and North American oaks throughout. A series of trails and paths run between meadows and native wildflowers in the arboretum. Many of the trees are rare and unusual. It also contains 19 of Englands Champion Trees and a staggering 793 Champion Trees in Shropshire. It is not usually open to the public and it is a privilege to have it added to the NGS portfolio.
