Britain's What's On Event Guide
Sheila's Island by Tim Firth and presented by Woodford Players
Julie, Sheila, Fay and Denise are middle management ladies in Salford based Pennine Mineral Water Ltd who are thrown together for the Company’s annual team building weekend in the picture postcard setting of the Lake District – what could possibly go wrong?
The first thing is that somewhat bewilderingly, Sheila, due solely to her apparent cryptic crossword solving skills, is elected as team leader. This transpires not to be the girls’ best decision as they soon find themselves on a foggy, cold and damp Bonfire Night weekend, marooned on a very unwelcoming island in the middle of Derwentwater.
As general optimism of imminent rescue and escape fades, all thoughts of a cosy evening meal back at base with the two other teams comparing notes and congratulating each other disappear into the night, dirty washing gets aired, tempers fray and questions are asked.
Is it possible to build an adequate night shelter with a prom dress and a sleeveless jumper? Is there an I in Team? What exactly is Julie’s husband up to in Aldi? What is it that should be never be mentioned to Fay? And why are they on this bloody team building exercise anyway when they could be at a spa?
We look forward to you joining us for this sharp-witted, engaging comedy.
The play contains a reference to suicide.
