Epsom Choral Society – Spring Concert
With English Music for Lent, Epsom Choral Society presents spiritual works from 20th century composers, reflecting on the crucifixion story and its themes of love and sacrifice.
The main work is Stainer's The Crucifixion, a classic oratorio known by choral singers and church choirs across the land, which conveys the sacred narrative with harmony and colour. Finzi's Lo, the Full, Final Sacrifice delves into the past, setting texts by seventeenth century mystic poet Richard Crashaw. Howells' haunting Like as the Hart Desireth and Ireland's transcendent Greater Love Hath No Man are evocative settings of biblical texts, and the ever-popular Elgar is represented by The Spirit of the Lord, the prologue to his longer work The Apostles.
We are delighted to welcome back international soloists John Findon (tenor) and Jon Stainsby (bass), and Peter Jaekel on the organ, for an unmissable concert that offers solace and reflection through sublime music.
