The Lady or The Tiger
From the award-winning team that brought you Next Door’s Baby and About Bill comes a revival of the smash hit West End musical The Lady or The Tiger.
When a princess falls for the charms of an exotic wandering minstrel, their romance sparks the displeasure of the king. To protect his beloved daughter from an unsuitable marriage the king devises a devilish plan – a trumped up trial for forbidden love that forces the young man to choose between two doors. Behind one door lies a beautiful lady he will be forced to marry, and behind the other, a ferocious tiger that will kill him instantly. The princess discovers the dastardly plan but also discovers the secret behind each door. She can advise her lover which door to choose. But what will that choice be? She will lose him either way ….?! What a dilemma! What would you do?
Adapted from the popular 1882 American short story by Frank R Stockton, The Lady or the Tiger has become a famous conundrum and an English expression for a problem that is unsolvable. This musical adaptation by Jeremy Paul, Michael Richmond and Nola York first premiered at the Orange Tree Theatre in 1975 playing to packed houses before transferring to the West End’s Fortune Theatre.
Directed by Keith Strachan, The Lady or The Tiger is a humorous witty musical that challenges the audience to consider the power of choice, the depths of love, and the mysterious forces that shape our destinies.
