Meadowhall joins city-wide festival to celebrate Chinese New Year
Meadowhall is joining organisations across Sheffield in a city-wide Lunar Chinese New Year festival to celebrate the Year of the Dragon and raise vital funds for charity.
Visitors to the centre on Saturday 10th February will have the chance to watch and take part in a traditional dragon and lion parade, while the iconic Meadowhall dome will also light up red to mark the New Year.
The celebrations are part of a city-wide festival which aims to bring Eastern culture to the heart of Sheffield with food, music and dance.
Sheffield Children’s Hospital is set to kick off the festivities on Friday (9th February) with a light switch-on event for its five-meter dragon.
The full breakdown of events and celebrations is below:
Friday 9th February:
• Dragon Light Switch On, Sheffield Childrens Hospital (main entrance), 5pm
Saturday 10th February:
• Dragon & Lion Parade, Meadowhall, Lower Main Dome, outside Victoria’s Secret, at 11am, 12.30pm and 2pm
• Peace Gardens Street Parade, Peace Gardens, 10am – 6pm
• Year of the Dragon Spectacular Show, University of Sheffield Octagon Centre, 7pm
Sunday 11th February:
• Peace Gardens Street Parade, Peace Gardens, 10am – 6pm
Tuesday 13th February:
• China Red Charity Banquet Auction, China Red Restaurant, 6pm
