The Killing of Sister George (Comedy)

The award winning play “The Killing of Sister George” by Frank Marcus stands as a classic comedy.

People in the public eye have often had their private lives scrutinized . The public may confuse actors with the roles they portray.

This is the case for June Buckridge, an actor playing the role of Sister George; a bike riding District Nurse caring for the folk ofApplehurst, a fictional village in a 1960’s BBC radio soap opera. June, and her flatmate Alice ‘Childie’ McNaught have their lives
turned upside down when a BBC manager and agony aunt, Mrs Mercy Croft, comes to visit.

June consults her friend Madam Xenia, a clairvoyant whose quirkypredictions have a habit of coming true!

There are elements of unexpected tenderness and emotional depth woven through the comedy. This 1960's era play contains adult themes that reflect attitudes and language is of its time.
