Rachmaninov Vespers
Temenos Chamber Choir, conducted by Patrick Craig, will perform Rachmaninov's Vespers, at St Mary's Church, Riverhead, near Sevenoaks, Kent, on Saturday March 2nd at 7.30pm.
Many people think of Rachmaninov as a composer of piano music, but these unique choral works show a different, deeply religious side to the composer. The vespers were written to be used liturgically in the Russian Orthodox tradition, but they stand alone as a deeply heartfelt and atmospheric example of Rachmaninov's unique choral writing, with rich textures and harmonies, which will resonate well in St Mary's acoustic. The choir will be singing the vespers in Russian.
There will also be piano solos from one of the basses, young Joseph Charkin.
