Redditch Operatic Society proudly presents its exciting production of The Hunchback of Notre Dame, based on the classic gothic Victor Hugo novel and songs from the Disney animated feature.
The story follows the life of deformed bell-ringer, Quasimodo, as he observes life in fifteenth-century Paris from the gargoyle covered bell tower of Notre Dame, where he is held captive by his devious caretaker, the Archdeacon Frollo.
Quasimodo escapes for the day and joins the crowds in the streets as they celebrate the Feast of Fools, only to be treated cruelly by everyone apart from the kind-hearted Roma girl, Esmeralda. Quasimodo is captivated by her free spirit, as are the handsome Captain Pheobus and Archdeacon Frollo.
As the three men vie for her attention, Frollo embarks on a mission to destroy the Roma – and it’s up to Quasimodo to try and save them all.
A sweeping score and powerful story make The Hunchback of Notre Dame an instant classic. Audiences will be swept away by the magic of this truly imaginative and picturesque musical, coming to the Palace Theatre for the very first time.
