About this Event
Managing pest insects without pesticides
At the Leicester Lit and Phil joint lecture with its Natural History Section, Professor Rosemary Collier will tell how high quality food security has been made possible with the use of synthetic pesticides which in turn has contributed to the loss of biodiversity. In order to reverse the decline she will consider different approaches to managing pests and what the consequences could be for the UK.
Rosemary Collier is professor at the Wellesbourne Campus, University of Warwick. She is interested in food production and the natural environment and especially the wider use of information on management of pest insects from farmers, growers and gardeners and that collected by citizen scientists.
