Critical Technology Metals and Mining for the Green Transition

A Leicester Literary and Philosophical Society Lecture by Dr Philip Bird, Senior Science Officer DESCYCLE, Research Associate in Mineral Processing Centre for Sustainable Resource Extraction University of Leicester

Over 60 metals play a significant part in our everyday lives. Now that modern industry and technology use a greater diversity of metals their security and sustainability has become a major issue for Governments. With demand for metals projected to peak in 2040s there is limited time to ensure they are responsibly produced. Dr Bird will explore concepts around mining and resource extraction in the 21st century and the challenges of meeting long-term demand for metals in a sustainable way for the good of all involved.
