- The Writtle Gardens Open Day has become a special attraction for over 25 years and a chance to enjoy an afternoon in our picturesque village. This year, as well as regular garden favourites, there will be four new ones to visit.
- Visitor numbers have grown year-on-year since 1997, with up to 1,000 supporters attending the event. All proceeds go towards the upkeep of All Saints Church.
- Proceedings start at 11.30 am on Writtle Green with judging of a children’s scarecrow competition. This will be followed at midday by the official opening and a performance by the Mayflower Morris Men. There will also be an art display in the Parish Office with paintings by a local Writtle artist, plus two stalls selling plants on the Green.
- Refreshments will include a ploughman’s lunch and afternoon teas in the Christian Centre, available from 12.00 noon.
- For children, as well as the scarecrow entries, there will be a ‘Nature Hunt’ in many of the gardens, with prizes available from the Green.
- Everyone is encouraged to make a prompt start, but with limited parking we advise any disabled visitors to arrive early. Additional parking will be available at Writtle University College’s Lordship Road car park.
