Let there be light – Ware care home invites local community to honour D-Day
A Ware care home is opening its doors to the community for a commemorative ceremony.
On Thursday 6th June, from 2pm-5pm, Care UK’s Snowdrop House on Baldock Street is welcoming local people to honour the 80th anniversary of D-Day with its very own lamp lighting ceremony.
To commemorate the 80th anniversary of the Normandy Landings on 6th June 1944, Care UK is partnering with royal pageant master Bruno Peek CVO OBE OPR, coordinator of ‘D-Day 80 Lamp Light of Peace’. Along with charities which support the three forces, including the Merchant Navy Association, over 100 Care UK homes will take part in this nationwide tribute.
At Snowdrop House, the team has been hard at work organising a special commemorative event that will see residents and guests enjoy a 1940s-themed street party, complete with live music from Olivia from musical memories who will be singing a varied style of music with a 1940’s twist, and even a special performance for our lifestyle team.
The lamp, which represents the peace that followed the end of World War Two, will be lit at 9pm by Nicola Crowe, the home’s Lifestyle Lead.
Nicola said: “I feel honoured to be lighting the lamp on behalf of the residents in memory of those who served during the war. My grandfathers both served, and since being at Snowdrop I have met so many people with so many stories from the war that are truly humbling.”
Clare Crow, Home Manager at Snowdrop House, said: “Here at Snowdrop House, we’re passionate about playing an active role in our community, so we’re delighted so be joining a nationwide initiative and be opening our doors to mark the 80th anniversary of D-Day.
