Helix Ensemble Summer Concert in Bottesford, Leicestershire
Helix Ensemble has been invited by the Friends of St Mary’s, Bottesford to give a concert in the church on Saturday 8th June at 7.30pm. We are delighted to have Stephen Bullamore as our Musical Director and four very experienced soloists, including the tenor Mark Wilde who has an extensive operatic repertoire as well as concert engagements with national and international orchestras. Mark is singing in the Britten Serenade for Tenor, Horn and Strings, a piece composed for the legendary horn player Dennis Brain and of course Peter Pears, and comprising settings of six poems by British poets, framed by the Prologue and Epilogue played by the horn alone, using the instrument’s natural harmonics. Our horn soloist is East Midlands player Mark Penny.
We have soloists Jo Conquest and Jane Bevan from within the orchestra for the Cimarosa Concerto for two flutes; a lively and beautiful piece written at the end of the 18th Century. The concert starts with the popular Marriage of Figaro Overture by Mozart and this is the work that has inspired ‘Figures in the Garden’ by Jonathan Dove who was commissioned by Glyndebourne in 1991. It was originally written to be performed as the audience ate their picnics and is played by a wind octet.
Concert starts at 7.30pm
