Rotten Perfect
LynchPin Theatre presents a delightful play about a famous theatrical partnership. Rotten Perfect by Claire Parker is set in 1890’s London where the legendary Actor Manager Henry Irving is doing everything he can to keep his Lyceum Theatre running and insists on performing the classics. At the same time, he is trying to keep his star actress, Ellen Terry, from leaving for good. Will she be lured away by the exciting new scripts by Ibsen (touted by the influential George Bernard Shaw)? Behind the scenes is costume designer Alice Comyns Carr, creating the famous dress of beetle-wings for Lady Macbeth, and the young actor Sedgwick who tries rather too hard to get it right. It’s all ‘rotten perfect’ in this original play set at a time of great change in British theatre.
‘I would urge you to try and see this wonderful production wherever it might be performed next.’ **** Essential Surrey
