The Wooden Boat Gathering

The Wooden Boat Gathering is returning to the Windermere Jetty Museum this June, assembling some of the most skilled professionals and enthusiasts in the wooden boatbuilding scene for a weekend of talks, tours, boating and socialising. The event will be dedicated in memory of Iain Oughtred, an inspirational figure in the world of small wooden boat design, who sadly passed away in February.

The event is run by the Wooden Boatbuilders Trade Association, an organisation that supports wooden boatbuilding in the UK and promotes wood as a sustainable boat building material. The Gathering welcomes boat builders, restorers, makers, designers, photographers, sailors and adventurers, as well as anyone curious to discover more about the world of wooden boats.

Across 3 days we have a varied programme of talks from our four illuminating speakers - Gabriel Hemery - author, forest scientist and photographer, Gail McGarva - boat-builder and storyteller, James Dodds - painter and lino cut artist and Abbey Molyneaux - boatbuilder and boatyard owner. There will be a curated selection of beautiful wooden boats to admire on the jetty and guided tours of the award winning Windermere Jetty Museum. A delicious buffet meal on the Saturday evening will be a wonderful opportunity to share stories and ideas and engage with the boat building community in a perfect lakeside setting.
