Britain's What's On Event Guide
Batik Workshop
Join Rachael Brown to understand the art of Batik using a wax resist method.
Learn how to use tools and dyes to design your own artwork on fabrics which can then be embellished upon or developed into a tote bag or panel.
Batik is an ancient textile technique originating in Indonesia and its use then spread to many other countries, with each putting a different cultural slant on the choice of images and their outcomes. The pattern was traditionally applied onto cloth using molten wax with fine brushes or tools called tjantings, before coloured dyes are applied to the fabric.
