Hailsham care home invites community to honour D-Day

A Hailsham care home is opening its doors to the community for a unique 1940s-themed event and commemorative ceremony.

On Thursday 6th June, from 5-8pm, Care UK’s Bowes House on Battle Road is welcoming local people to honour the 80th anniversary of D-Day with its very own lamp lighting ceremony and 1940s-themed fun.

At Bowes House, the team has been hard at work organising a unique commemorative event that will see residents and guests enjoying a nostalgic evening of live music, buffet refreshments and a raffle in aid of Blind Veterans UK. Guests are being encouraged to dress in their finest 1940s-style clothes for the night and share their memories from decades gone by.

A special lamp, which represents the peace which followed the end of World War Two, will be lit at 7.30pm by Bowes House resident and proud veteran Peter Lancaster, aged 99, who will be guest of honour at the event.

The Mayor of Hailsham, Paul Holbrook, will also be in attendance to help commemorate the special occasion.

Karen Milligan, Customer Relations Manager at Bowes House, said: “We’re passionate about playing an active role in our community, so we’re delighted to be joining a nationwide initiative and be opening our doors to mark the 80th anniversary of D-Day.

“We’re looking forward to welcoming new and old faces into Bowes House for what we anticipate will be a heartfelt evening for everyone involved!”
