Wessex Songs
Join two extraordinary artists and explore the gorgeous alchemy of Thomas Hardy’s beautiful poetry set to music.
Lotte Betts-Dean, mezzo-soprano
James Girling, guitar
In this exciting, unique collaboration, critically acclaimed singer Lotte Betts-Dean (nominated for the RPS Young Artist Award 2024) and outstanding young guitarist James Girling, invite you to take a walk with Thomas Hardy through songs of the 20th century inspired by his words and the local Somerset landscape.
The project is the brainchild of composer Arthur Keegan, and it includes arrangements of beloved songs by Britten and Finzi alongside beautiful songs composed by quiet luminaries such as Imogen Holst, Ivor Gurney and Robin Milford. There will also be stunning new music composed by Kerry Andrew and Arthur Keegan, including a new cycle about Hardy and his first wife Emma.
