Britain's What's On Event Guide
D-Day 80 Years
On 6th June 1944, Allied Forces launched ‘Operation Overlord’ – the code name for the massive Allied invasion of Normandy in France during the Second World War.
This year marks the 80th anniversary of the D-Day landings. Across the nation, the day will be marked with the nation’s church bells ringing and beacons being lit on Thursday 6th June.
As part of the commemorations, on Sunday 9th June, Land of Oak & Iron will acknowledge the anniversary with 1940s specials on our café menu, traditional games to play around the Courtyard and live music in the afternoon.
Soprano Julie Pendleton and tenor Chris Wain will be joining us at 1.30pm in the Courtyard. They were a great hit at our Coronation event last year and we’re thrilled to welcome them back their much loved stage songs and ‘Last Night of the Proms’ with a rousing finale of Rule Britannia. Bring your flags and your singing voices!
Our café as always will be serving up tasty home cooked meals and cake, with some 1940s specials to choose from to eat inside, or out in our Courtyard under red, white and blue bunting.
No need to book, just turn up and enjoy the food, fun and live music.
Please note our outdoor seating areas (including courtyard, benches and planters) are reserved for customers who have purchased drinks/food from our on site café. Please support us by not bringing your own refreshments – our meadow area or wider country park can be used if you’re bringing your own picnic.
The event runs between 09:30 and 16:00 and is free to attend
