West Raynham SHQ Open Day
To support our awareness campaign for Veterans Central our Annual Activities and Open Day will take place at West Raynham SHQ on Sunday 7th July from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
This event takes place at the historic Grade II listed RAF Station Headquarters (SHQ), which is under restoration by Veterans Central at RAF West Raynham, located in the Norfolk countryside between Fakenham, King’s Lynn and Swaffham. Visitors will be able to view progress with the restoration work, including guided tours of those areas of the building that are still untouched, as well as viewing the in-use rooms with their various permanent and temporary displays, exhibitions and activities. Visitors can also enjoy the extensive garden space around SHQ, some of which will be in use for displays and activities on the day.
The Activities and Open Day is planned to be informative and entertaining for visitors from families with young children to those with an interest in military and RAF history, or just the plain curious!
This a FREE to enter event and the programme features a variety of displays and activities to entertain visitors. This includes:
• Tours of SHQ
• Aircraft fly by (subject to availability)
• Military vehicles and Reenactors
• Classic Cars and other vehicles
• Live music with the Swing Tones
• Craft Fair, Memorabilia Fair, Book Sale, Clothes Sale
• Aviation and Local History Museum Displays, Norfolk’s Model Air Force, Royal Observer Corps, Ejection Seats, Historical Displays, Researching RAF relatives, and more
• Military charities
• Children’s Fun zone, including games, puzzles, storytelling, Bee/Bug Hotel building
• Bomber Command Virtual Reality (VR) experience; briefing room and then fly the VR mission
• Military Research Library
• SHQ Gardens
• Shop and 2nd hand military book shop
• SHQ Café (hot and cold drinks and food), BBQ, plus Bar
