Lavenham Literary Festival

The eighth Lavenham Literary Festival takes place from Friday 1 to Sunday 3 November at various venues in Lavenham. We have an exciting line-up of events. Tom Henry is returning with his Writers' Workshop, and the Festival is launched with the Literary Dinner at the Swan Hotel by guest speaker Craig Brown, satirist and author.
Alan Johnson, former politician and best-selling author is in conversation with Suffolk's own Lesley Dolphin, and Patrick Barkham introduces his biography of naturalist Roger Deakin. We're thrilled to welcome the much-loved actor Dame Sheila Hancock who will talk to television presenter Janet Ellis about her memoir Old Rage. Dr. Annie Gray will lead us down the British High Street of the past, and our favourite historian Tracy Borman, recently awarded the OBE, will take us behind closed doors at the Royal Palaces.
Ashley Hickson-Lovences's Wild East has been named the Children's Book of the Week in the Sunday Times, while Hilary Taylor whose Sea Defences has won the Paul Torday Memorial Prize is talking debut novels to Jyoti Patel. Louis de Bernieres, author of the hugely popular Captain Corelli's Mandolin is in conversation with broadcaster Martha Kearney. Finally Bill Alexander, whose Exploring Shakespeare, A Director's Rehearsal Notes is shortlisted for the Theatre Book of the Year Award will discuss directing Shakespeare with eminent actor Dame Janet Suzman.
And for budding poets Ashley Hickson-Lovence is running a workshop on how to write a sonnet, and three Suffolk poets will be reading their prize-winning pieces.
Events will run from 10am to 6pm on each day.
Information on tickets and prices will be available on the Festival website from July.
