Shakespeare's Macbeth

Macbeth at Cleeve House, Seend, 1st - 6th July
Shakespeare Live's Macbeth runs from Monday to Saturday at 8pm and on Saturday at 2pm.
This well-known local drama group has reached its 35th year of Shakespeare performances to large and enthusiastic audiences from all over the area. This year's Macbeth is directed by John Jameson-Davis and set in medieval Scotland. The focus is firmly on the dark and terrifying world that engulfs the once-glorious war leader Macbeth. Egged on by the spine-chilling supernatural witches and by his dangerously ambitious wife, he makes the appalling decision to kill the monarch and take the throne, and from then on, he is doomed.
The powerful images and soul-searching emotions of the language of the play are given full rein in this chilling rendition. Costumes, lights and sound all contribute to a stunning experience for the audience.
This is an open air production for the actors, but not for the audience, who are under cover and on tiered, numbered seats, just like an indoor theatre. The doors open 90 minutes ahead of each show to allow for picnics in the attractive grounds of Cleeve House, Seend, Wiltshire, SN12 6PG, which also provides a bar and light refreshments. Parking is on site and there is disabled access.
It's best to book ahead on www.shakespearelive.com where you'll find all the information you might need about the facilities, and a booking link. Tickets cost £18 (£13 for under 19s) for Monday - Friday evenings and Saturday afternoon. The Saturday Gala performance opens earlier, at 6pm, when the special pre-show entertainment begins, with the actual show at 8pm as usual, and costs £23 (£18). A limited number of groundling spaces are available for all shows.
