Britain's What's On Event Guide
Theatre on Kew
From a modern children’s classic to one of Shakespeare’s best-loved comedies, there is something for theatre lovers of all ages within the magical setting of Kew Gardens this summer.
Australian Shakespeare Company is returning for its sixth season at Kew Gardens, bringing together a British and Australian cast and crew in an idyllic, inspirational landscape.
Perennial favourites The Wind in the Willows and A Midsummer Night's Dream will be performed alongside The Dream Fairies – Adventure Through Bubble Land, written by ASC’s artistic director Glenn Elston, with music composed by Paul Norton.
Dream Fairies is a delightful world of song and dance designed especially for younger audiences. It combines fairytale elements with interactive adventures to create a magical, engaging experience for younger audiences.
Everyone is invited to dress up as fairies, elves, pirates or their special superheroes to immerse themselves in the sparkle of Bubble Land, producing a captivating show which has been described by the Sydney Morning Herald as “a delight”.
The Wind in the Willows is a classic story of life on the riverbank. Set against the beautiful backdrop of Kew’s stunning lake, the show is packed with colourful characters, music, song and laughter, and is a rollicking yet gentle adventure with best friends Ratty, Mole, Badger, Otter and the hilariously arrogant Mr Toad.
There is fun for young and old alike, as the Head Chief Rabbit transforms children and adults into rabbits with a waggle of the ears and a wiggle of the nose!
A Midsummer Night’s Dream is set beneath heritage trees in uniquely botanical surroundings – as twilight falls, the starlit stage is set for one of Shakespeare’s best-loved comedies. This beguiling tale of enchantment and transformation is brought to life within a dream-like woodland filled with feuding fairies, eloping lovers and a hapless troupe of actors.
