The Scene Podcast
The Scene Podcast was a child of lockdown. Something we always wanted to do, and with a bit of spare time on our hands, we set to work learning how to do it.
Writers need to hear their ideas come to life and something to point to as they develop their craft and their careers. When theatres closed during the pandemic we further recognised the need to explore the digital space for new writing.
We want to offer the opportunity for anyone to have their work made and for it to live in perpetuity in the form of a podplay. We’d like to understand what the future of theatre might look like. You can now watch Livestreams of plays at The National Theatre in your local cinema, making them accessible to anyone, anywhere. We believe that the theatre industry must continue to embrace a new digital reach, and that the very concept of theatre should welcome the possibilities this new landscape will bring.
The podcast has gone from strength to strength and we’re excited to start producing Season 4, following 300+ script submissions from the general public within a 6 month submission window.
This is our first LIVESHOW, featuring some of the podplays from season 3 of The Scene Podcast – bringing the podcast audience back in the theatre space, and the writing and writers back to their roots. This oxygenated circularity will fuel the podcasts growth, and hopefully mean filling larger and larger theatre auditoriums as we advance through the seasons!
