A free talk at Chetham's Library, as part of a new Tudor-themed exhibition
From Thursday 15th August – Wednesday 11th September, Chetham’s Library will be exhibiting the marriage bed of king Henry VII and Elizabeth of York, telling the story of it's history and Manchester connections.
this talk explores the bed’s discovery and the subsequent fourteen-year research trail unravelling the story of this remarkable survival.
Made for the January 1486 marriage of Henry VII and Elizabeth of York, the bed’s materiality is addressed, as well as an account of its fascinating characteristics which explore unity, royal authority, divinity, and parenthood.
