Piano Masters: Alim Beisembayev
A debut showcase for the acclaimed young Kazakhstan pianist who jumped in at a few hours notice to play Rachmaninov’s Concerto no 2 live in a televised Prom last summer after the original soloist was taken ill. “Hugely impressive… a high-stakes, electrifying performance.” said The Times reviewer. In 2021, aged 23, he won the Leeds International Piano Competition performing Rachmaninov’s Rhapsody on a Theme of Paganini with the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra and Andrew Manze. He also took home Audience Prize and the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Society Prize for contemporary performance, with The Guardian praising him as a “worthy winner” with a “real musical personality”. Quite a CV! For his Wells recital he plays:
Haydn Variations in F minor
Beethoven Sonata op 10 no 3
Haydn E flat major XVI 52
Schumann Kinderszenen
Brahms Paganini Variations book 1
Alim is the artist which all of the young pianists at Wells Cathedral School hope to emulate.
