Live Music - Theatre Organ Pops concert 'From Down Under to Up North'
Dr. John Atwell, a distinguished internationally renowned Australian organist with a career spanning several decades, brings his unique flair and expertise to Saltaire for a performance that promises to be unforgettable. Known for his dynamic playing style and deep understanding of the theatre organ Dr. Atwell has delighted audiences across the globe. In that time he has developed a reputation for providing programs, whether in concert or on recordings, which are carefully put together to provide a variety of enjoyable music, with a balance between the familiar and sometimes the not so well known. His program will be one of broad musical variety, drawing on selections from the stage (Hello Dolly) and screen (The Bandwagon) – as well as music from the pen of Anthony Newley and Leslie Bricusse plus selections from the pen of Duke Ellington and Benny Goodman, as well as a special tribute to the musical collaborations of the famed lyricist, Johnny Mercer (Hooray for Hollywood, Moon River, Charade, Laura etc)
To round out the variety, there will be selections with a Viennese flavour from the pen of Fritz Kreisler and Johann Straus snr, as well as a few further selections to get your foot tapping.
John Atwell’s ability to breathe new life into both classic and contemporary pieces makes this concert a must-see for all music enthusiasts.
There will be delicious refreshments and visits below stage during the interval to see nearly 1000 pipes and percussions in the organ chambers.
Concert starts 2.30pm (doors 2pm) and ends at approx 4.30pm. Admission £12 (£5 for under 26s) payable at the door in cash or by card. Under 18s admitted free of charge. There is level access from Lockwood Street via a lift.
