Garendon Park with Loughborough Heritage Open Weekend
Heritage Open Day: Garendon Park is an acadian park and garden just begining to emerge from many years of neglect. The restored 18thC Obelisk is our focus. You are free to wander amongst other surprises. Garendon Park has been opened to the public for the first time in centuries! The Park surrounding Garendon Hall was landscaped in the 1730s, including several follies, which survive. The Hall deteriorated and was demolished in 1964, with the rubble used in the foundations of the M1.
The restoration and opening of the Park and structures was a condition of planning permission for a substantial housing development; our focus will be the newly restored Obelisk.
