Heritage Open Day: Visit Anthony Salvin's church of St John the Evangelist and decide for yourself whether its early critics were fair or just jealous! Built in 1840-41, shortly after Salvin had worked on Harlaxton Manor & had just completed the Grantham Savings Bank in Finkin Street; this church was extended in the 1880s. Salvin (1799-1881) was an architect who designed or modified hundreds of churches, stately homes, and humble dwellings. In Lincolnshire, he designed Denton Rectory, cottages etc for the Belton, Stoke Rochford & Easton estates.
