Aslackby Voices Through Time's Pulsating Ebb and Flow

Heritage Open Day: Five ethereal figures sit in church to tell the stories of five extraordinary lives which began in Aslackby and went on to span the world... They include a member of John Smith's expedition in to the New World 1606, and a highwayman hanged in York, gibbetted at the scene of his crime for 36 years, and who became the subject of folk song and fable. Amongst the many interesting names inscribed amongst the historic graffiti in the porch and tower is that of the highwayman. Will you be able to find him! A projected artwork, featuring poems and photographs by young people and adults living with young-onset dementia will be a feature of the Open Day. Inspired by the poetry of the Revd K T Street, who was described by a former Bishop of Lincoln as 'Aslackby's George Herbert', this project was funded by National Lottery Heritage Fund, as part of 'bringing history and heritage to life' in Aslackby.
